Am I eligible for a mortgage as I have bad Credit history. Thanks, Lynne
Hi Lynne, thanks for getting in touch. It is possible to get a mortgage with bad credit – but this really depends on how recent and severe the issues are, and how much equity or deposit you have. If you are buying/remortgaging with a loan up to 90% of the property value (the loan to value - LTV), then any major recent issues such as multiple late payments, mortgage arrears, defaults, CCJs, IVA etc, are likely to pose a real problem – but at a lower LTV it may be possible.
Because we are whole of market – we have access to all the lenders and will be able to find a mortgage for you if there is one, and because all our consultants are fully qualified, most with years of experience, we can match you with potential lenders before making credit searches etc, which helps to prevent any further damage to your rating. There are also several mortgage providers that don’t conduct a credit score and offer a more hands-on underwriting approach, so it’s not just ‘computer says no’ response.
In order for me to give you some specific advice I’d need to see a copy of your credit file (and the file of anyone that will be on the mortgage with you). If you don’t already have it, you can download them here for free. Then send it over and we can work out what you’d be eligible for.
Let’s start with your report and go from there.
