Rebecca Priest:

I’ve never had any worries about buying a house in the UK. I’m fortunate to have a history of good credit and a decent income, alongside a hefty deposit from previous houses I’ve owned. However, when I sold up and packed my bags for my new life in New Zealand, I decided to hold on to a UK bank account just in case I needed it on my return.

Cue 6 years later and I’m back in the UK ready to wander into a high street bank and sort out my next mortgage, but things weren’t as easy as I thought they’d be. Due to being out of the country my history of UK credit was non-existent and the bank account I’d left open in the UK wasn’t the one my salary was paid into, which meant the lender quickly turned me away.

"Despite being in a good position financially, it wasn’t enough to allow the lender to see past gaps in my income & credit history, was every lender going to be like this?"

Rebecca Priest, OMA Customer

This came as a big shock. Despite being in a good position financially, it wasn’t enough to allow the lender to see past gaps in my income & credit history, was every lender going to be like this? With my confidence waning, I knew there had to be others in a similar situation to mine and searched online to find a solution.

That’s when Online Mortgage Advisor popped up. I must admit I didn’t entirely understand whether they could help me because my situation was so specific, but seeing what they’d done for people in worse situations than my own, it felt like it was worth the effort of filling out a form on their website.

A broker contacted me almost immediately and we had a reassuring conversation, clearly the form has done its job, this broker knew their stuff. They were able to manage my situation in the right way, with the right lenders to secure me the mortgage offer I was after. I needed a premium service which I was prepared to pay for, and that’s exactly what I got, from start to finish.

As a Deputy Director at my local NHS trust in the mental health sector, I see daily the importance of reducing stress and worry in any way you can. Having a broker that could manage all the heavy lifting, particularly at a time when the NHS was as stretched as ever, was more than I could have asked for.

And that’s my story, I’m now happily back in the UK sharing a home that I love with my daughter. I couldn’t recommend Online Mortgage Advisor highly enough for their ability to put people in touch with an expert, particularly when looking for a mortgage made complicated by moving internationally.
